Chumani, Midrand; was a creative child from the Eastern Cape, he lost his mother to illness at the age of 18.

Due to this he ran into some financial troubles and struggled to find funds for his tertiary education. Determined to further himself, he started mending clothing, offered gardening services and teaching art to the local children, after a period of time he saved up enough to pay for his first year of study, he excelled and was top of his class, and received a bursary to complete his diploma in fashion design.

Until two months ago he worked as a fashion design tutor before the school was closed down, knowing his determination this will not detour him from his goals, as maximizing your strength comes from continues effort.

Puma Social Club

I was asked by Mahala.co.za to go to the Puma Social Club to photograph the club on a Friday evening. Fortunately for me famed rapper “AKA” was set to perform that evening so the club was filled with a great vibe and atmosphere which made for some great images, some of which I’m very proud of.

The gallery that came out was named “Perfectly Imperfect”. Here is the small text piece that accompanied the gallery.

Born and raised in Glencoe, KZN, Janeke Wissekerke left to study Architecture at The University of the Free State where her interest in film photography was sparked. She studied it alongside her degree for a few years. Throughout her time working as an architect in SA and abroad, she pursued her longstanding relationship with photography and gained experience under photographic portrait professionals in Brisbane. Janeke’s knowledge in architecture and design provides a different outlook, no matter how modest the subject. She never attempts perfection, believing in the incomplete, impulsiveness and unconventional that makes everything unique. Here’s what she saw at the Puma Social Club last Friday night.

Chevelle

oh Chevelle, I was wondering what to write here, as words would just fail how talented this band is, “religious” comes to mind – As one of my favourite bands, I jumped at the opportunity when I was asked by another newspaper to do some shots of them live at Big Top Arena at Carnival City for their SA tour all the way from Chicago. The whole aim for me was just to compose myself and be professional, as Pete Loeffler (lead guitar/vocalist), was performing just an arms length from me… A time machine would be handy to go back and watch them all over again!

Vieux Farka Toure

I headed to The Bassline situated in Newtown, Johannesburg for this event, as I was asked by a national newspaper to do a few shots of  Vieux Farka Toure that were touring South Africa all the way from Mali. The venue was packed with fans from all corners of Johannesburg, the atmosphere was so vibrant and enjoyable, everyone was captivated with their natural on-stage presence. I will not hesitate to buy tickets for their next tour to SA!
