Biffy Clyro. RAMfest 2014

RAMfest 2014 Johannesburg

The car was packed, we were ready and then we suddenly realised: “We need Gumboots”. This year celebrated the 8th incarnation of RAMfest which was hosted at Witfontein nearby Bronkhorstspruit, a 3-day musical festival that describes itself as “Real Alternative Music”, which loosely translates into 2 stages filled with guitar wielding rock and roll inspired mayhem as well as a stage dedicated to those who love the rhythmic thumping of electronic based music. Headlining acts for this year included the likes of: Biffy Clyro (Scotland), Foals (England), Trivium (USA), Killswitch Engage (USA). Not to be outdone by their international counterpart’s local bands: ISO, Gangs of Ballet, Pestroy and Newtown Knife Gang put their best foot forward and showed that they could go toe to toe with the best acts in the world. What an experience, and hopefully I’ll be able to photograph again next year ...

Khumalo and Jobe: The Traditional Wedding

I was asked to cover Khethiwe and Celani’s traditional wedding which was held the same day as their official wedding day in Empangeni, KwaZulu-Natal. I got to meet a lovely bunch of people from their family and friends. The atmosphere was relaxed and everyone enjoyed in on the festivities. Khethiwe makes a beautiful makoti indeed! ...

Khethiwe and Celani

I travelled down to Empangeni, KwaZulu-Natal for this wedding, the weather was extremely hot and sunny (as it almost always is). This unfortunately resulted in me looking like a pink prawn during and after this wedding! It goes without saying but the bride looked stunning, the day went ahead without any glitches with the traditional wedding that followed the same day. Congratulations guys you deserve all the happiness coming to you. ...

Pamela & McDonald’s Wedding

I was asked to go to Tzaneen for this beautiful wedding, as this was my first wedding in the Limpopo Province I was thrilled to go. The wedding took place at the Letaba River Lodge, and was quite literally on the Letaba River, with a quaint jetty like aisle. Which made for some great images Stretching onto the river. As hot as what is was, I enjoyed every moment with these two awesome people. Congratulations to them. ...

Puma Social Club

I was asked by to go to the Puma Social Club to photograph the club on a Friday evening. Fortunately for me famed rapper “AKA” was set to perform that evening so the club was filled with a great vibe and atmosphere which made for some great images, some of which I’m very proud of. The gallery that came out was named “Perfectly Imperfect”. Here is the small text piece that accompanied the gallery. Born and raised in Glencoe, KZN, Janeke Wissekerke left to study Architecture at The University of the Free State where her interest in film photography was sparked. She studied it alongside her degree for a few years. Throughout her time working as an architect in SA and abroad, she pursued her longstanding relationship with photography and gained experience under photographic portrait professionals in Brisbane. Janeke’s knowledge in architecture and design provides a different outlook, no matter how modest the subject. She never attempts perfection, believing in the incomplete,...

Noma & Soloman Ashoms

It was a beautiful & elegant winter wedding at the Avianto in the Magaliesberg near Johannesburg. Guests came from far including from their hometowns; Dundee, KwaZulu-Natal & Jos, Nigeria. The day started very early as it was a morning wedding, which I personally enjoy the most! It was a little cloudy which made the conditions perfect for the images. I enjoyed this wedding tremendously because not only is Noma one of my dearest friends, but her & Solomon are truly suited & so relaxed with one another, something I think came across in all the images. Congratulations guys! ...

oh Chevelle, I was wondering what to write here, as words would just fail how talented this band is, "religious" comes to mind - As one of my favourite bands, I jumped at the opportunity when I was asked by another newspaper to do some shots of them live at Big Top Arena at Carnival City for their SA tour all the way from Chicago. The whole aim for me was just to compose myself and be professional, as Pete Loeffler (lead guitar/vocalist), was performing just an arms length from me... A time machine would be handy to go back and watch them all over again! ...
